How frequent and rich are the teaching opportunities? Efficient use of time? Availability of resources (library, hospital internet, etc.)? Thoughts on the workshops at UVA? Please begin posts with your site name, if relevant. What do YOU recommend to improve specific deficits?

Surgery
Consider subspecialties versus general surgery, as well as UVA vs. away sites. Did you solicit and receive expectations and feedback from your superiors? Were rounds / OR instructive? Were there obstacles to learning procedures such as suturing, inserting and withdrawing tubes and lines, changing dressings and wound VACs, etc.? Discuss organized teaching time, conferences, war games, and assigned presentations, etc.

Does the clerkship optimally introduce and reinforce concepts integral to diagnosis and management of disease in newborns, children, and adolescents? Is time on the ward and clinics wisely distributed? How do you consider the various extra-clinical learning methods (CLIPP, lectures, essays, etc.)? Site-specific issues?

How were you introduced to the examination and diagnosis of obstetric complications and management of pregnancy? Discuss GYN clinical exposure and office procedures, as well as subspecialties such as Gyn-Oncology and Gyn-Urology. Discuss issues of communication, expectations, and feedback.

Were you exposed to the variety of outpatient medical complaints? Management of common chronic diseases? Was your preceptor/site instructive in the ways of delivering appropriate care, patient interaction, and efficiency in the clinic?
